The transmission for 1986-1999 Softails is mounted to the frame with 4 studs on a mounting plate and on the right side with the 5th stud directly to a bracket welded to the frame. It is common to offset the transmission to create space for a wider rear tire, using an offset mounting plate. The offset mounting plate however does not support the 5th stud, often resulting in a cracked internal primary. Installing our Fifth Brace solves this problem. Installation is simple. All bolts, nuts, spacers, washers and a full instruction are included. All you have to do is drill a 3/8" hole in the vertical part of your frame bracket, put "The Fifth Brace" in it and then bolt this bracket directly to the hatch. The result is a More torsion resistant bracket and stronger construction than stock which greatly reduces the risk of internal primary cracking.Fits most stock and aftermarket frames.
